FAQs

Counsellors and psychologists should be trained in their field of choice however, it is our approaches that often set us apart.

Counsellors often take a more person-centre approach, preferring to see their clients as the experts of their own lives. We are helpful for shorter-term contracting, helping you develop coping skills and strategies which will enable you to deal better in the future when more difficult situations may appear.

Psychologists can be helpful for deeper-set mental health disorders and illnesses.

Unfortunately Medicare do not currently recognise counsellors for Medicare rebates however, some private insurance providers will.

Appointments run for 60 minutes for individuals and 90 minutes for couples.

As of 1 March 2024, consultation fees are as follows:

$120 per 60 minute session.

$100 (discounted rate) for students up until 18 years.

Payment is required on the day of consultation.

Cancellation with less than 48 hours notice will attract a 50% session fee.

Cancellation with less than 24 hours notice will attract the full fee (please consider telehealth to avoid this scenario if you are unable to attend face to face).

Counsellors are guided by the Code of Ethics as set out by the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) and all laws and guidelines identified by federal and state law.

There are only a few instances that require us to breach privacy and confidentiality, including:

  • That you, or someone else is at risk of harm
  • We are subpoenaed to provide information by a court of law.

In all instances, you will be informed of this requirement. Please ask if you have further questions.

If this is you, please don’t despair. There are many reasons that may have led to a negative experience in the past. Perhaps you didn’t “click” with your past therapist/coach, or the approach used was not enough to substantiate you feeling long term change. Whatever the reason, trained counsellors are often different. We take a person-centred approach (it’s all about you) and listen. Together we make plans (you are always in charge of the direction of your therapy), and we work together to facilitate change for the long term.  Sound daunting? Please be assured, we are here with you every step of the way!

As we take a person-centred approach, this is an individualistic experience as not one size fits all, almost!

The first session is designed to discuss any questions you may have, discussing contracting rights, expectations and obligations, and what brings you along, including your goals. You can expect that you’ll be listened to respectfully, and empathetically.
